Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Bob K — 17 Nov 2018
About 15 minutes worth of plot, and the rest is flashback, exposition, and spectacle. How much that will bother you depends on how big a HP nerd you are. Clunky dialogue, with large gaps where something cleverer should have been said.
Johnny Depp and Jude Law are fun to watch, but I still have trouble understanding Eddie Redmayne; mumbling I suppose? I thought that Tina Goldstein was pointless in the first movie. She's given more to do here, but not much.
This movie's pointless character was Theseus Scamander. And Skender. And Seraphina. The HP movies had big casts, but we knew enough about them to make them interesting. Here, everyone is just plopped down.
