A huge family of libertines and actors loses a patriarch and when his widow remarries, their fanciful world is submerged into a gothic nightmare; the film bends from fanciful realism to magical fairy tale without missing a beat.

During every scene, I had a feeling of elation and dread -- elation because it was a perfect scene and I was so utterly captured by it, dread because I feared that the next scene would take a turn for the worse and the movie would disappoint -- good news (!), elation won; I loved this film from start to finish.
