Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Pak T — 24 Dec 2007
Bergman's last "official" film is a marvel of cinema - a sumptuous semi-autobiographical family saga - thematically rich and varied in character and tone, with a story fit for a generous 19th century novel.
The 5-hour cut of Fanny and Alexander is nothing short of a revelation. See the abbreviated 3-hour version by all means, but keep in mind it is far from definitive.
