Review of Fair Game (2010) by Harry T — 30 Apr 2011
A strange mix of propaganda and political intrigue. I remember when the original story broke in the media several years ago, and how quickly it revolved in a constant state of spin.
This film tells its story well. In particular, Watts' portrayal of a woman torn between loyalties. She portrays the former CIA agent as intelligent and strong-willed, perhaps to independent.
Good interaction between Watts and Penn, though I was disappointed with Penn's performance as whole. His kitchen-argument rant around the 3rd act was rather contrived and unconvincing. But there were moments of sincerity too.
Not a great film, in my books. Felt a bit too coercive with its message -- as if the message came first, and the story second.
