Review of Faces (1968) by Erika J — 15 Nov 2007
A truly amazing work of art that is one of my all-time favorites. The filming was done in a high contrast black and white which made the expressions and flickers of emotion across the faces of the actors much more prominent. It takes you to all kinds of emotional highs and lows, with intriguing camera angles, and actors who perform in such a brutally honest way that you could recognize yourself within one of the lost souls in film.
Some of the characters were deceptively simple, seeming flighty or arrogant, but when everything comes crashing down in the end, all the characters lose their masks and the and the harsh reality of who they are comes to light.
