Although the script leaves much to be desired, those looking for an absolute gore fest have come to the right place.

"Evil Dead" is the story of a group of friends who go to an old family cabin. They're here in order to help their friend detox yet again, but when they stumble across a basement full of witchcraft and evil, they accidentally unleash an evil, sinister being. They're left to fight for their lives in a night full of blood, gore, and violence.

For those of you with weak stomachs, or if you prefer anything but horror films, stay away from this film. For those of you looking for blood, blood, and more blood, buy this film on Blu-Ray immediately. This is definitely one of the grossest and goriest films I've seen, and it's accompanied by some top notch visuals and disgusting imagery. This film was made specifically for the sake of gore, and if that was there one and only goal, they more than exceeded that.

The thing that really made me scratch my head was the script. I understand that that wasn't the purpose of this film, but that's never an excuse for having a poor script/story. It's logical as to why they're at this old, rundown cabin, and it makes sense as to why they don't initially leave, but the script is almost laughable at times. They often struggle with their story telling, resorting to the most inefficient and boring way of narrating the story. The characters always blatantly state an important fact in order to progress the story, and not one character ever said anything remotely smart. If you're looking for layers and depth, this is not the movie for you.

This movie is terrifying in the way that I nearly threw up on a few occasions, and there will be more than a few moments where you start to cringe. This movie is visually disturbing and the amount of gore is insane. One thing I do appreciate is the fact that they used a lot of props and practical effects, which makes this just a newer and better looking version of the original. If they relied entirely on CGI, this movie would've been nearly terrible. However, this movie looks amazing and the visuals are eye candy.

There's not much to say about this movie other than how violent it was and how gore hounds will love this movie. I never watched the original so I can't compare it to the source material, however, I feel like this is still a respectable nod to its origins. As a horror enthusiast, I had fun with this movie and it's something I'm glad to have in my collection. The visuals and scares are enough to give this movie a fresh rating, despite poor storytelling and a cringe worthy screenplay.
