Review of Everyone Says I Love You (1996) by Elliott F — 04 Jul 2012
Everyone Says I Love You is simply delightful. Woody Allen's decision to do a musical with a collection of respected actors who basically have no business singing was an inspired one. The characters are real people, not professional singers, so when they sing, they sound like real people.
They sing because the emotions they're feeling can no longer be conveyed in simple dialogue (as it is with all musicals), and while a few of the actors prove themselves to be quite respectable singers (Edward Norton and Goldie Hawn in particular), most are merely passable, and the movie is all the more beautiful because of it.
The musical selections are perfect, and each and every one slaps a huge grin across your face. It's nearly impossible not to fall in love with this film. Absolutely magical.
