Review of Event Horizon (1997) by Tero H — 17 Dec 2012
At first look it seems like an interesting movie, but if the only carrying force behind the film is the characters trying to avoid horrible torture and mutilation, thats not really interesting in the long run. This isn't a so-called "viewer friendly" movie! Theres such pain and gore that I have never seen such in any film. It is also thoroughly impossible, for instance one person survives a visit in the vacuum of space without a space suit.
One thing that isn't bad is the acting, the whole cast performs well, but I still think that the script was just too bad for this film to become a classic. There wasn't enough depth in the plot and over emphasis on people being destroyed. The paranormal side of the movie makes it just plain silly, and doesn't add to the "scariness". The effects and stunts are well made, though, and this might have been a cool movie - but its not. It repeats itself and relies too much on graphic violence.
