Review of Event Horizon (1997) by David H — 19 May 2011
I had a rating on this film, but no review. I recently purchased "Event Horizon" on BluRay at Target for a very generous price - which makes me both very happy and very sad. This is, in my opinion, one of those "perfect" sci-fi movies.
I'll explain. A science-fiction film dares to explore the future of technology and its effect on humanity and human beings (yes, there's a difference). Some of them are done very well. Some of them are just okay.
Others, and these are unfortunately the majority, are laughable or half-realized. "Event Horizon" falls into the first category. Not only does it give you the sci-fi and technology (and it doesn't smush it in your face, it simply states it matter-of-factly as if we all already know this).
..but it scares the bejeezus out of you with the horrors of the unknown and unexplored. Whenever man expands his reach using technology there are always dangers, and "Event Horizon" shows you exactly what that means in such style and gory goodness.
It boasts an outstanding cast (most with more unique names than you're used to) that all shine - every single one of them. The story is solid and is played through fully and very well. The action is suspenseful and so enthralling.
I love this movie, and so I highly recommend it to any science-fiction or horror fan. This one will stick with you, like it or not.
