Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most distinctive work of anime ever made. 25 years after the series ended, Creator Director Hideaki Anno attempted the Herculean task of completing his saga for the 3rd time, this time making it as palatable to the general masses as possible.
He barely made it, after 8 years of production and the result is probably the best Anime movie out there in recent years. I was surprised how autobiographical this series is for him: Anno is both Gendo and Shinji, and that's why this series always felt incredibly raw and real despite its fantastical elements.
An incredible piece of work, especially for Anime fans everywhere.
