Review of Escape from Tomorrow (2013) by John W — 13 Oct 2013
I'm honestly not sure what I think about it, but I did like it. From a technical perspective; the way it was done without permission, permits or formal staging (on site sets, lighting, etc) defines guerrilla film and is amazing in and of itself.
The quality of the filming (even including the extremely narrow depth fields), the use of available light, and the sound belay its origins. From any other perspective, it is dark, kind of creepy, campy, and very, very weird.
I get some of the references to other off-beat films and directors, but this one kind of defies comparison. After the first viewing it is hard to say if it's horribly brilliant or brilliantly horrible.
For certain you've seen nothing like and (with luck?) likely never will again.
