Review of Ernest Goes to Jail (1990) by Derek D — 19 Jun 2011
After Pee-Wee, there was Ed Grimley and Ernest P. Worrall (Jim Varney). This installment in the series involves a switcheroo with icy-eyed convict Felix Nash (also Varney). Ernest learns about life in the Big House while Felix holds down Ernest's blue-collar bank janitor job.
It's the '90s equivalent of a '60s Don Knotts movie, with some visual lifts from "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure." Varney primarily acts for the fish-eye lens but is good as the convict.
Gailard Sartain, Randall Cobb and Bill Byrge are also standouts.
