It was nice that Ernest got to be something of a superhero in this one, shooting high voltage electrical beams to escape from prison, and then surviving an explosion in the Earth's atmosphere and a 20,000 foot fall.
He doesn't get enough credit for the good that he does, as most of his friends seem to forever judge him as an idiot. Perhaps with time he'll at least get credit for being a beneficiary of favorable circumstance.
