Review of Ernest & Celestine (2012) by Ian G — 16 Dec 2014
Unbearably cute, if you pardon the pun, and surprisingly smart for a children's animated film from Europe, will probably go down as one of those films that crossover similar to say Triplet's of Belleville that appeals to adults just as much as the kids who watch it.
Ernest and Celestine focuses on the unlikely friendsip between down on his luck Ernest looking for a way to feed his family and Celestine who lives at an orphanage and is forced to steal peoples teeth to keep their mouse society going and has Ernest help her pull off these capers.
The animation style plays out like one of those classic chidlren storybooks akin to the velveteen rabbit which adds to the warmth and appeal for the project and flies by, very deserving of its Best Animated film nomination.
