Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Sebastian T — 04 Feb 2010
For its time, there was nothing quite like it. It's the first Lynch movie, and it is nightmarish, surreal, yet even darkly humorous sometimes. The uniqueness of this film makes it so captivating and fascinating to watch.
Strangely, it's Lynch's best film done with the lowest budget. Don't try to find a distinct meaning or "moral of the story" when watching Eraserhead. If you can handle getting lost in a surreal and existential presentation which features very twisted, you can enjoy this movie which many in the midnight movie/underground classics world regard as being more revolutionary than the likes of El Topo or Pink Flamingos.
It's a bizarre experience you will never forget with a grimey yet supernatural aesthetic. Considered by many, along with the previous movies mentioned, to be one of the most disturbing for those who are interested.
