Review of Equus (1977) by Abel D — 18 May 2013
While its subject matter and an ending scene involving horses may be too much for some, Lumet's adaptation of Schaffer's play is still a compelling drama, thanks to solid and believable performances from its two leads, a restrained yet haunting & unnerving score and an unapologetic viscerality that lends the film a frigthening realism and depth that makes the fantasies and actions of Firth's character disturbingly beautiful and fascinating.
