Review of Equus (1977) by Jay N — 26 May 2009
I've read the play, haven't had the chance to see it on stage, though, so I will have to address the movie here.
Put simply - it' f***ing brilliant. Only goes to show that the movie genre of psychological drama worked so well in the 1960 - mid nineties span, losing its true panache nowadays.
It's both shocking and alluring, scary and beautiful. If one expects cheap thrills like scenes of zoophilia, mutilation or other graphic content - might want to watch 'Hills have eyes' or something similar instead.
Watch it and get engrossed in it, it will be worth your while.
