Review of Equinox Flower (1958) by Ricardo V — 16 Sep 2007
An inferior ozu piece that really doesn't get off the ground until 45 minutes into the film. I have seen numerous ozu films and understand that his films are slow and carefully paced, but the initial set up of the film takes 45 minutes to get actions into swing (action by ozu's standards) and after that the film is fine, but it's the fact that nearly 45 % of the film involved me waiting for the film to begin that had me disappointed in the film.
the actor in the father role in this film was not interesting, it has little to do with the actor because later when I saw 'early autumn' he played a much more playful character, it's that he's very wooden.
this film is passable but must go down as a disappointment.
