Review of Equinox Flower (1958) by Henri L — 07 Apr 2008
Stylistically Ozu sure seems to be at the top of his game with this, his first movie shot in colour. All his trademarks are here: zero camera movement, evocative editing and his trademark, the tatami-level shots.
It all works perfectly and should be sweet candy for any true movie buff. The story is delicate, sweet and very emotional in its simple depiction of love, cultural change and the gap between generations.
