Review of Equals (2015) by Ethan L — 28 Sep 2016
I really liked this movie. It was extremely well done. The people who didn't like it, didn't like it because they don't like the KIND of movie it is, and not because it wasn't good at what it was meant to be.
The movie wasn't slow and "dull" because the writer and director didn't know how to make the movie exciting. It was the way it was because THAT is the way the world IS in this future in Equals.
The movie is meant to be art and philosophy, like 2001 A Space Odyssey, and everything about it was meant to give one the experience of what it would be like to live in a world without feeling: a pretty suffocating experience.
If you want a typical action movie or a movie based on THIS world, you won't like this movie. If you are a philosopher, or an artist, or you want to experience what a world without feeling would be like, then give it a try.
By the end, I FELT how empty and pointless it would be to live in a world with intellect, but no emotional meaning. If the movie were exciting, it would have defeated its purpose. They were like people who were already dead, and the ones with feelings were like people trying to take a final breath of air, but being held under water.
The only complaint I have is that I had difficulty understanding some of what was said, partly because they spoke quietly, but partly because of poor enunciation.
