Review of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) by Mark P — 06 Aug 2008
What I thought would be a dry and dull documentary about stocks, shares and money of which I am clueless about, actually turned out to be an entertaining film.
It was less about corporate business and more about how men can start off fresh, true and with good intentions yet ultimately end up weak, corrupt and selfish. There certainly was a great deal of schadenfreude to be had watching these greedy thieves and liars being reduced to little specks of dust in court when they had to answer for their crimes and the suffering they had brought down on their many regular workers.
Other bonuses included lots of Tom Waits on the soundtrack and as one of the CEOs had a particular fetish for strippers, the film makers just had to show us footage in a poledancing club. It's all about educating us you know.
