Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by David F — 21 Aug 2008
The fact that Werner Herzog has become something of a rock star in the film world is nothing short of a miracle. Someone as inventive, brilliant, and audacious as he would usually be relegated to the scrap heap.
For some bizarre reason, people have embraced his talent and he's been able to make some fairly commercial movies of late. ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD is an intriguing documentary that left me with more questions than answers.
I expect nothing less from Herzog. Not my favorite documentary of his, but that's sort of like saying that strawberry isn't my favorite ice cream. In the final analysis, it's all good. Gotta love the melancholic glee with which he says that human beings are doomed to extinction.
