Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Kate M — 17 Jul 2009
Tough film to review. For a nature documentary about Antarctica, Encounters at the End of the World comes off as very drab. But that's exactly the intention; you could almost call it an anti-nature documentary.
And while I appreciate the take the filmmakers have gone for here, and enjoyed some of the particularly mesmerizing or wondrous sequences, for the most part the film was dull and yawn-inducing. Call me crazy, but I just can't help but want that magic, even if that's not the reality.
Call me conflicted; this film gets a 6.
