Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by William H — 13 Sep 2009
I was hoping for better, but pretty much what you'd expect from Werner Herzog questioning the motley crew that choose to make Antarctica their home. Without much judgement, Werner interviews machinists, scientists, cooks, gardeners and everyone he can mostly at McMurdo Station, from many of whom Werner draws out (or perhaps doesn't have to) the ways in which they are off, whether it's seal scientists who perform an impromptu guitar jazz session on the top of their remote outpost, or the performance artist who talks about her travels across Africa in a dump truck.
I am kind of on a South Pole kick, but this is a world which most people don't look into and it's fascinating.
