Review of Elephant (2015) by Zane T — 17 Feb 2010
I hate to say it, but this movie actually gets interesting once we are introduced to the teenage killers. Up until then, it's a lot of scenes of people walking around and talking. I know what Van Sant is trying to do by saying the school day began like any other before the violence started and making us care about whether characters live or die, but it's slow.
As for the violence itself, I have to somewhat applaud Van Sant for not over dramatizing the murders. Yes, teenagers are killed but the action happens so quick. There are no dramatic falls or people clutching their wounds and the gun shots sound real, unlike they normally do in movies.
I kinda wish Van Sant had made the movie a little longer, so we can see who lives and who dies as well as what fate awates the murderous Alex.
