Review of D.C. Cab (1983) by Zane T — 12 Mar 2011
You can start to see Gary Busey become the crazy person he is today in this movie. Busey is one of the many caricatures in this movie that has a cast consisting of Adam Baldwin of Full Metal Jacket, Max Gail of Barney Miller, Mr.
T, Bill Maher, DeWayne Jessie, Otis Day from Animal House, Bill Maher and Paul Rodriguez, Bob Zmuda, Whitman Mayo from Sanford and Son and Marsha Warfield of Night Court. This is a movie that never seems to have a plot, but a few episodes that may have been part of a TV series that never made it.
There's a subplot about a valuable violin and a third act plot focusing on a kidnapping, but the movie works thanks in part to Busey's crazy performance as Dell and Charlie Barnett's performance as Tyrone.
Barnett, who died in the 1990's but was an influence on later comics such as Dave Chapelle, steals the show in this movie. But the movie does have its drawbacks, I could have done without the Barbarian Brothers, who can't act and living in D.
C. is expensive and I don't think the cabbies can get that well off on a few grand. There's also a feeling that Mr. T's performance was a lot smaller in the original script but beefed up after Rocky III.
He does have a few small scenes but that's all.
