Review of Electroma (2006) by Joe R — 11 Oct 2007
I'm going to be controversial and give it three stars. I absolutely bum Daft Punk to the ends of the earth, but I think I should have watched this film with the album soundtrack first off. I spent quite a lot of the time with my mind wandering elsewhere. What they managed to achieve without facial expression or dialogue and sparse sound effects was technically astounding though.
As long winded as it seemed, the stretching out of the scenes did achieve what they intended, which was to build up the tension. I was very upset at the end, and from a film with like I said, no facial expression or dialogue, and a cast consisting entirely of non-human faceless robots, that was a feat in itself.
Had I watched it with the soundtrack, there might have been tears. Definitely watch it at some point, but not if you want a fun-for-all-the-family hillarious romp. It's quite hardgoing in places.
