Review of Electroma (2006) by Sam C — 26 Feb 2009
See Daft Punk drive! See Daft Punk gaze into mirrors! See Daft Punk walk! Alot! All said and done, the visuals were highly impressive, especially the expansive desert. Yeah, yeah I get the message of the movie, but it doesn't help that at some points I was bored.
All said and done there is an upside to this movie. You can sync Electroma up with Daft Punk's cd Human After All. Now, it isn't perfect, especially since it depends which cut you have (the American version has a shorter run time?). Regardless I tried it and it made the film much more enjoyable. When Daft Punk is driving through the town and they look at the man reading the newspaper, the cd gets about a little way through Robot Rock and the song slows down at this point and picks right back up when they drive off. There are other moments like this as well, and Emotion fits so well with all the shots of the desert. Was this done purposely? Perhaps. Or just a hell of a coincidence.
