Review of El Topo (1970) by Stuntman R — 17 Jul 2008
Brilliant and disturbing. It's cruel, bizarre and really interesting. It has something biblical, like a dream or a nightmare. El Topo, a bad ass pistolero, is seeking something... His journey will completely change him. In a way, he dies and resurrects as a messiah for a bunch of cripple living underground. Then he begins to dig (just like a mole) to free these people. The result is a complete disaster as the cripple get massacred. In opposition to Jesus who dies on the cross to deliver a message of hope, El Topo burns himself alive because there's no hope...
Great!
