Review of El Topo (1970) by Irvin C — 20 Jul 2008
One of the most extraordinary films I have ever seen. It felt like I was watching a Fellini, Bunuel and Leone film all at the same time. A very trippy Western about a gunman who abandons his young son and goes on a one-of-a-kind journey.
Jodorowsky fills the screen with many vivid and brilliant colors (one of the best uses of color I've ever seen) and alternately grotesque and beautiful imagery (sometimes at the same time). It's a masterpiece.
