Review of Einstein and Eddington (2008) by Stefano L — 13 Dec 2010
Tennant hits it on the head again. First with his performance in Hamlet and now with this HBO drama. It proves that the best films are not coming big budget Hollywood. Even Serkis, who didn't impress me as Gollum, impressed me in this film as Einstein.
A nice character piece that focuses on Eddington (Tennant) who was a devout Quaker & found Einstein's theory of gravity in contradiction to his own belief in Newtonian gravity, but through investigation found that it was hard to dispute the math.
If it wasn't for Eddington, who went out of his support a Germanic Jewish scientist during the first world war when Cambridge had banned corrospondance between England & Germany, Einstein's revolutionary ideas on curved space could have been lost forever.
On a dramatic front this is a slower paced, quality character piece.
