Fresh from Sundance is the virgin feature from Bo Burnham and A 24, 'Eighth Grade'. Burnham wrote and directed a movie that falls flat, but the bright spot is the young lead, Elsie Fisher. Fisher is a breakthrough and a marvel and completely believable, but she's all this movie has on offer.

There is zero development of supporting players and the scenes with her and her father just don't work. I look forward to Burnham's later work which hopefully will be a bit more developed. The only laughs in the movie are when we're laughing at people, and that's just not smart or funny.

We're making fun of teens who are living life. It's bullying and unacceptable. A 24 does so much good (Ladybird) and I see the risk they have taken here, but unfortunately this movie will struggle to find an audience.

Final Score: 4.1/10.
