Well-written, well-directed, wonderfully acted, but...an exploration of Victorian sexual repression...why? The very nature of the subject mandates dramatic inertness. The only time the film comes to life is when Emma Thompson shows up, and that is seldom.
As my friend said: "I think my virginity grew back while I was watching this film.".
