I too saw the 212 minute version, and although I can't see me rushing to see it again any time soon, it's certainly a unique and full experience of the processes and experiences that shape an artists life and not a boring one.
A docudrama way before the phrase had been coined, it's not like anything else I can think of, and i've seen at least 10 films.
