Review of Educating Rita (1983) by Ned J — 07 Aug 2007
Normally Michael Caine gives me a pain in the unmentionables, but he's excellent here as a burnt-out professor of English literature who finds himself invigorated by an unlikely student. Julie Walters is always fabulous, but never more so than in this little gem of a role - she's fantastic here, and so endearing you want to reach into the screen to give her a hug as she endures the banality of her life and the insensitivity of her treatment by her father and, at times, her husband.
The ending is a bit 'twee', but besides that, a great movie and a brilliant performance from the future Molly Weasley!
