Review of Educating Rita (1983) by Hans J. E — 08 Aug 2010
What a remarkable film, with perfect performances by the two leads. It's a bit slow-paced, but it was made in 1983, so it's completely forgivable. Looking past that fact, though, the movie takes you places that you'd never expect and, despite their flaws, you fall in love with both leads.
Julie Walters (who's become even more famous as Molly Weasley in the Harry Potter films) is beyond remarkable as the title character, and she gives Rita an amount depth and dimensions you would never have imagined as the film progresses.
Michael Caine is always amazing, and he does not disappoint here. I would absolutely recommend this film: it's witty, sweet and quite funny.
