Review of Edmond (2006) by Jason D — 09 Feb 2008
Very engaging film based on the play by David Mamet and directed by none other than the amazing Stuart Gordon. This piece centers on businessman Edmond (Macy) who confronts all of the issues/demons/frustrations/emptiness (whatever you want to call it) on one wild night and flees out into the night and into the city where he meets random characters, goes through several dark and unwelcoming areas and finally kills a cocktail waitress.
The film can be very brutal at times but in a very slow paced and subtle way, with a climax that can be unflinching and frustrating at the same time. This is definitely for Mamet fans, but Gordon fans will be surprised.
