Review of Eddie the Eagle (2016) by Allan C — 28 Mar 2016
I did not enjoy this film. To be fair, I am not really the intended audience. I generally dislike sports films because film creators *generally* miss what is loved about sports, and when details are incorrect it infuriates me, as well as, any half-way dedicated fan of the particular sport.
The thing is, the story of Eddie The Eagle Edwards is a genuinely interesting story, but this film is not really interested in telling this story, instead it wants to tell Ruldolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. This leads the story to be so fully-packed with underdog cliches that is (for me) unwatchable. Frankly I think it's pretty insulting to the other members of the British winter Olympics team.
Why turn this really interesting story into a story for children?
Again, to be fair, this movie is almost exactly what it says on the tin. It's just disappointing because it could have been so much better.
