Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Guy G — 08 Jul 2011
It would have been easy to mock Edward D. Wood, Jr., a director long considered one of the worst. But Burton creates an optimistic, humorous, and touching biopic that pays tribute to the spirit and dedication Wood possessed as a filmmaker -- even if his films all turned out to be laughable pieces of shit.
"Ed Wood" succeeds because it does not pass judgment on the titular hero. Plus, Johnny Depp and Martin Landau give two of the best performances from the 1990s here.
