Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Ian B — 15 Jan 2014
Who knew a film about the worst director of all time would turn out to be one of the most enjoyable Hollywood's given us in the last few decades. To this day I still consider it to be Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's best film.
It's a fantastic comedy, character study and drama all rolled into one. Everything about this movie is pitch perfect...the black & white atmosphere, the amazing cast (especially Martin Landau's Oscar winning turn as Bela Lugosi), Howard Shore's score, the cinematography.
..I could go on and on. This is just a one of a kind movie that lovingly pays tribute to an extremely weird man with a passion for cinema, who just happened to direct some of the worst movies ever made.
One of my all-time favourites! The only downside being it'll make you wanna watch Ed Wood's terrible films (like Plan 9 from Outer Space) right after.
