Review of Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield (2007) by Michael D — 29 Jun 2012
You'd think a biopic about the real-life killer that inspired "Psyhco" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" would be a great idea. It's a story of a mother/son relationship, a murder mystery, life/death and the gruesome acts of Ed Gein. Why isn't this movie an Oscer winner?
Well, "Ed Gein: The Butcher Of Plainfield" comes off as a direct-to-video slasher flick that doesen't even feel like an Ed Gein film.
To be honest, there were some solid preformances and Kane Hodder (although he's the worst Ed Gein look-alike ever) did a great job being both mindless and creepy. He was great in the role and that's all that matters. However, his name and acting is the only thing that makes the movie worthwhile.
This movie is so over-loaded with cheesiness, you'll find this movie FUNNY! This woulden't be THAT bad if it wasen't for the fact that this is surrposed to be the story of the most f**ked-uped crimes in American history! Any movie that forces the audience to laugh at a REAL-LIFE MURDER is striaght-up flat-out, down-right insulting. I mean, how do you make a story this gruesome funny?! Well, here's how:
1. make the gore look like rubber.
2. make the movie more predictable then "Friday The 13th Part 2".
3. do not stay true to the facts.
4. make what should be a biopic/drama a slasher film.
5. rip-off the movies that were inspired by the true story that inspired your movie.
This movie sucks and I only recomend it to slasher movie fans and Kane Hodder fans. Anyone who is interested in the REAL story of Ed Gein should search him on Google. The story in words is much more scary then this piece of crap!
-Peace! :D.
