Review of Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: How the Sex 'n' Drugs 'n' Rock 'n' Roll Generation Saved Hollywood (2003) by J D — 05 Nov 2007
I probably wouldn't give this five stars on its own, but as a primer for the uninitiated to the era, combined with the bonus features and as a supplement to Peter Biskind's book which this is based on, this is an excellent documentary.
Definitely check out the bonus materials, which give some more background on individual directors, as well as records some of the reactions to when the initial book came out. Ironically, while the book makes most of the directors involved come off extremely unlikeable (and rightly so, in most cases), the featurette with the Biskind interview reveals him to be a whiny, nebbishy coward.
Between the book and the movie, no one comes away from this one unscathed.
