Review of Easy Rider (1969) by Jake. K — 17 Sep 2008
I really enjoyed this movie, the whole existentiallist thing worked for me, Peter Fonda was great, and it was short enough to hold my attention, a very rare trait of movies centered around road trips. However, I thought that it was simply held down by annoying camera work.
Those strange cut shots were cool and unique, and I will admit that they had grown on me by the end, but I felt they were over used and in some instances simply frustrating. Also, how about that watch scene, an extremely symbolic scene that ends up being almost subliminal, infact, while discussing the movie with a friend, he couldn't even recall seeing the watch.
But, all in the the convincing dialogue, almost pitch perfect acting, and interesting story combine for a classic and trendsetting film.
