Review of Easy Rider (1969) by William B — 05 Jul 2010
MOTORBIKE FILM TO THE MAX!! No other biker on screen can beat this weed smoking, women loving, freedom granted duo.
Hopper can certainly rest in peace knowing that his directing merged with his and fonda's acting would become a classic tale of what 'freedom' can eventaully lead you to.
The two bro's are riding across to get to a festival. On the way they meet up with some of the most interesting supporting characters especially Nicholosons drunkard prophet kind George Hansen (which earned him an Oscar).
Th reality of this film is that this kind of thing happens all the time. A group of young dumb and full of cum guys go out thinking that the world is theres and they are as free as the wind on a summers morning. All the extra characters mirrored how different Americans around the country were.
Enough about the storyline. As soon as the credits hit the screen with Steppenwolf booming out it was obvious that this film would have stunning shots and a kick-ass soundtrack. Was I disappointed? FUCK NO! The epic shots of the duo biking through the wasteland, with Hendrix pounding out of the sound system were enough to question Ford Coppola's technique of directing.
The changes between wedd talk and the early morning could have spazzed an epiletic out they were so awesome, longs shots of silence coupled with the 7 min chats about anything while they were high as the sky added the egde of drug use to script.
All time greatest road movie? Most likely.
Hoppers finest hour? As director yes it's safe to say.
Best biker film of all time? Well it certainly ain't no Wild Hogs! so HELL YES.
5/5.
