A very difficult film to rate for me as this is from the generation of love which has subsequently turned to hate and confusion (and possibly greed?). The film is not narrative driven, it is a film about riding across the country with a buddy and a whole lot of cash and drugs and motorcycles.

It doesn't quite grab a hold of my attention but there are two sequences that are brilliant in this film. The first is half way through the film when we meet southern-fried drunk ACLU lawyer George, played brilliantly by Jack Nicholson.

Jack's on screen presence and acting is top notch. The second is near the end when we finally get to the acid trip sequence that is needed in all hippy movies of the time. Most were shit but here the trip is more closely in line to what it is like to go outside and enjoy it with strangers during Mardi Gras in a cemetary.

With two hookers. Ego death. I imagine. It works but overall the movie doesn't draw me in quite as well as it seems for those who grew up during the 60s hippy movement. Nice selection of music, too.
