Review of Dynamite Warrior (2006) by Joshua C — 19 Jul 2007
Opening in only 3 U.S. theaters, 'Dynamite Warrior' clearly is trying to bank off of the success of previous Thai martial arts flicks, 'Ong-Bak' and 'The Protector'. The only catch here is that Tony Jaa, star of both aforementioned films is noticeably absent.
Instead we have Dan Chupong (Born to Fight). While he is a great acrobat and a decent fighter, the fight scenes in 'DW' feel low-fat. Jaa on-screen star power and extremely powerful fighting style are clearly missing.
Each hit feels too scripted, often mimicking Jaa's moves, similar to 70's kung fu films starring Bruce Li, in place of Bruce Lee. 'Dynamite Warrior' is by no means bad, in fact, its highly original and widely entertaining, but it's just not what it could be.
