Review of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011) by Phil N — 04 Aug 2011
A second stab at adapting the comic book characters of Tiziano Sclavi (see also Rupert Everett in Dellamorte Dellamore) is equally frustrating. Dylan Dog, a supernatural PI and the one man entrusted to keep the vampires and ghouls of this world at peace with each other, investigates when a series of unexplained deaths occur in New Orleans.
Coming across part 80s comedy-horror, part hard boiled detective story, complete with voiceover, the tone doesnâ(TM)t quite work. In fact the funniest bits involving Dylanâ(TM)s partner â" now a member of the undead â" seem completely out of whack with the more serious monster hunting elements of the main narrative.
A shame as Brandon Routh isnâ(TM)t bad as the titular character, but really this is a bit of a mess.
