Review of The Whistleblower (2010) by Phil N — 27 Nov 2011
'Based on true events', Kathryn (Rachel Weisz) takes a new position in Bosnia as part of the peace keeping force where she uncovers a sex trafficking ring - but struggles to bring the culprits to justice as some of her colleagues are complicit in its operation.
Despite a surprisingly high profile cast (Benedict Cumberbatch, David Strathairn, Vanessa Redgrave and Monica Bellucci), the film lacks a cinematic sweep and feels like a low rent TV movie. It begins promisingly enough but Kathryn's investigation soon becomes plodding and tiresome to watch, her earnestness grates after a while.
Similar dramas have been done before, and better.
