Review of Dust Devil (1992) by Bryan Y — 04 Jul 2007
A beautifully filmed thriller/horror film about a shape-shifting creature known as (you guessed it), the Dust Devil. For the duration of the movie, it takes the form of a cool drifter. Basically, the only point to its existence is to kill, but thankfully the film gives his murderous habits reasoning.
The movie also has a lot of underlying themes thrown here and there too, but due to some minor editing and scripting issues, they become just a tad muddled. Still, this is a great, vastly overlooked film that has some really great things going for it.
The lead character/Dust Devil (pictured on the cover) is played with a great sense of calmness and ferocity, the music is cool (when it actually plays), and the film also has a crazy head-shot near the end.
Honestly, in a lot of ways, this film was ahead of its time.
