Review of Dust Devil (1992) by Robert D — 02 Nov 2009
Brilliant in places, weak in others, with a slight, weirdly anti-gnostic plot about loss and ritual redemption. Robert Burke looks like he's between Hal Hartley films, which helps his role considerably, and the final scenes in a sand-washed Namibian town are terrific.
It's a very difficult film to characterise, in some ways - even the supposedly stock scenes are peculiar thanks to the location.
